GRAND HARBOUR CAREERS

Dockside Hosts

Now Hiring Seasonal Full Time & Part Time Positions

ABOUT GRAND HARBOUR MARINA

Grand   Harbour Marina is a premier waterfront destination located in Lagoon City,   Brechin, Ontario — on the beautiful east shore of Lake Simcoe. Under new   ownership and management, we are transforming this iconic marina community   into a destination defined by elevated service, exceptional amenities, and a   genuine passion for life on the water.

At   Grand Harbour, we believe the boating experience begins the moment a vessel   approaches the dock. Our Dockside Hosts are the living embodiment of that   belief — present, proactive, warm, and ready to make every arrival feel like   a welcome homecoming and every stay an experience worth talking about.

THE ROLE

As a   Dockside Host at Grand Harbour Marina, you are the primary face of   hospitality on the water. You’ll be out on the docks and across the property   — greeting arriving boaters, handling lines, coordinating dockside   deliveries, assisting members with recreational activities, tending to   community gathering spaces, managing boat ramp traffic, and ensuring every   guest interaction reflects the Grand Harbour standard of excellence.

This is   a dynamic, physical, outdoor role that demands equal parts energy, warmth,   and initiative. The ideal Dockside Host doesn’t wait to be asked — they   anticipate, they act, and they leave every guest feeling genuinely cared for.   No prior marine experience is required; we’re looking for the right person   and will provide full training.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Docking Assistance   & Vessel Arrival

• Monitor the marina   approach and docks for arriving vessels and proactively move to assist before   boaters need to ask

• Respond promptly to all   radio and in-person hailing requests from boaters seeking docking assistance

• Handle bow and stern   lines, spring lines, and fenders with skill and care to ensure safe and   damage-free berthing for all vessel types and sizes

• Guide skippers on   approach with clear, calm hand signals and verbal direction, particularly in   tight or high-traffic docking situations

• Assist boaters with   departure procedures including line handling, fender management, and push-off   when required

• Welcome arriving guests   warmly, provide a brief orientation to the marina, and connect them with the   services and amenities most relevant to their needs

• Maintain awareness of   slip assignments and communicate with the Harbour Shop Host or Harbour Master   on vessel arrivals and berth availability

Dockside Deliveries   & Provisioning

• Coordinate and execute   dockside deliveries of ice, beverages, snacks, provisions, and shop   merchandise to vessels at berth

• Receive delivery requests   from the Harbour Shop and fulfill them promptly, accurately, and with a   guest-first presentation

• Carry, transport, and   load delivered items to the dock safely — including ice bags, boxes, and   heavier provisions — with attention to vessel safety and dock cleanliness

• Confirm delivery with the   guest and process or relay any associated charges to the Harbour Shop for POS   entry

• Anticipate provisioning   needs of arriving or staying guests and proactively suggest available shop   offerings

Guest Experience &   Member Services

• Serve as a knowledgeable,   enthusiastic ambassador for everything Grand Harbour Marina has to offer —   services, amenities, programs, and the surrounding Lagoon City community

• Assist marina members and   guests with recreational activities including kayak and paddleboard rentals,   fishing assistance, swimming area oversight, and other on-water leisure   offerings

• Support the coordination   of member events, social gatherings, and marina programming as directed by   management

• Check in regularly with   guests during their stay to ensure their needs are being met and their   experience is exceeding expectations

• Handle guest questions,   requests, and concerns with professionalism, patience, and genuine care —   escalating to the Harbour Master when required

• Maintain a warm,   approachable, and proactive presence throughout the property at all times

Community Gathering   Areas & Property Presentation

• Take ownership of all   dockside and waterfront common areas — including picnic areas, fire pits,   lounges, and outdoor gathering spaces — ensuring they are clean, set up, and   welcoming throughout each shift

• Reset and prepare   gathering areas between guest uses, restocking amenities such as seating,   lighting, and accessories as needed

• Remove litter, debris,   and hazards from all dock walkways, outdoor seating areas, and waterfront   common spaces on an ongoing basis

• Monitor the condition of   dock furniture, umbrellas, planters, and outdoor fixtures and report any   damage or maintenance needs to the Operations team

• Ensure all posted   signage, safety notices, and directional information in common areas is   visible, current, and in good condition

Boat Ramp Assistance   & Monitoring

• Assist at the boat ramp   during peak periods — guiding boaters through launch and retrieval procedures   and managing traffic flow for a safe, orderly experience

• Provide patient, hands-on   assistance to first-time or inexperienced boaters at the ramp with care and   clear instruction

• Ensure the ramp area and   surrounding zones remain clear of obstructions, unattended trailers, and   hazards at all times

• Report any ramp safety   concerns, unauthorized use, or damage to the Harbour Master promptly

Fuel Dock Support

• Provide backup   operational support at the fuel dock during periods of high vessel traffic,   peak season demand, or staff absence as directed by the Harbour Master

• Assist the Fuel Dock Host   with line handling, vessel tie-up, and guest service during busy fueling   periods

• Maintain a working   familiarity with fuel dock safety procedures, emergency protocols, and basic   fueling operations through training provided

Safety, Communication   & Team Support

• Maintain constant   situational awareness across the docks and waterfront, identifying and   addressing potential safety hazards proactively

• Report any dock   infrastructure issues, safety concerns, equipment damage, or guest incidents   to the Harbour Master without delay

• Communicate clearly and   professionally with all team members across departments to coordinate   seamless guest service

• Participate in team   briefings, safety training, and operational drills as required

• Adhere to all WHMIS,   marina safety, and Transport Canada waterway regulations applicable to the   role at all times

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Required

• Warm, energetic, and   genuinely guest-focused — you light up when you can make someone’s day better

• Proactive and   self-motivated — you anticipate what needs doing and do it without being   asked

• Physically fit and   comfortable with an active, outdoor role that involves lifting, carrying,   line handling, and extended time on your feet

• Comfortable working on   and around water in all weather conditions throughout the boating season

• Strong interpersonal and   communication skills — confident, clear, and calm in busy or high-pressure   dockside situations

• Reliable, punctual, and   professional in conduct and appearance at all times

• Must be at least 16 years   of age

Preferred (Not Required   — We Will Train the Right Person)

• Previous marina, boating,   dockhand, waterfront hospitality, or outdoor guest services experience

• Pleasure Craft Operator   Card (PCOC) or willingness to obtain prior to the start of the season

• WHMIS certification or   willingness to complete prior to start

• Basic knowledge of vessel   types, docking procedures, marine terminology, and knot tying

• Experience with   recreational activity coordination, member services, or resort-style   hospitality

• First Aid / CPR   certification or willingness to obtain — an asset given the waterfront   environment
