ABOUT GRAND HARBOUR MARINA
Grand Harbour Marina is a premier waterfront destination located in Lagoon City, Brechin, Ontario — on the beautiful east shore of Lake Simcoe. Under new ownership and management, we are transforming this iconic marina into a destination defined by elevated service, exceptional amenities, and a genuine passion for the boating lifestyle.
Our public boat launch is one of the busiest and most important access points on Lake Simcoe — a gateway to the water for hundreds of boaters, families, and anglers throughout the season. We are committed to making that experience as safe, smooth, and welcoming as possible, and our Boat Launch Attendants are the people who make it happen.
THE ROLE
As a Boat Launch Attendant at Grand Harbour Marina, you are the first point of contact for every boater using our launch facility. You’ll manage the safe and efficient operation of the boat ramp — collecting launch fees, directing traffic, assisting boaters with launch and retrieval, maintaining the ramp area, and ensuring that every person who uses our facility leaves with a positive impression of Grand Harbour Marina.
This is an active, outdoor role that requires patience, good judgment, and a genuinely helpful attitude. Whether you’re guiding a nervous first-timer through their first trailer backup or keeping a busy summer Saturday running like clockwork — your calm, professional presence is what sets the tone for the entire launch experience. No prior marina experience is required; we provide full training.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Launch Fee Collection & POS
• Greet all boaters arriving at the launch facility in a friendly and professional manner, consistent with the Grand Harbour Marina standard of hospitality
• Collect all applicable daily and seasonal launch fees accurately, processing cash, debit, and credit payments through the marina POS system
• Issue launch passes, permits, or receipts as required and maintain accurate records of all transactions throughout each shift
• Reconcile daily launch fee collections at the end of each shift and submit accurate records to management
• Verify seasonal launch pass holders and communicate any access issues or discrepancies to the Harbour Master or Operations Manager
• Communicate current fee schedules, pass options, and marina policies to boaters clearly and courteously
Ramp Traffic Management & Boater Assistance
• Actively manage the flow of vehicles, trailers, and vessels at the boat ramp to ensure a safe, orderly, and efficient launch and retrieval operation at all times
• Direct drivers and boaters through the staging area, ramp approach, and retrieval lanes using clear hand signals and verbal instruction
• Assist boaters with launching and retrieving their vessels — including helping guide trailers, steadying vessels at the dock, handling lines, and advising on ramp positioning
• Provide patient, hands-on guidance to first-time or inexperienced boaters, ensuring they feel supported and confident throughout the launch process
• Manage queuing and wait times during peak periods — keeping boaters informed, calm, and moving efficiently without compromising safety
• Coordinate with the parking area to ensure trailer parking is organized, accessible, and safe throughout the day
Safety & Compliance
• Enforce all marina boat launch rules, posted regulations, and safety requirements consistently and respectfully with all users
• Monitor the ramp, dock, and immediate water approach for any safety hazards, vessel congestion, or dangerous conditions
• Ensure all users comply with applicable Transport Canada regulations including the requirement for a valid Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC) for motorized vessels
• Manage access during inclement weather, high-traffic events, or any conditions that compromise safe ramp operation — consulting the Harbour Master as required
• Respond calmly and appropriately to any on-site incidents, near-misses, or safety concerns — notifying the Harbour Master immediately and completing any required incident documentation
• Ensure adequate dock lines, fenders, and docking aids are available and accessible at the launch dock at all times
Ramp Area Maintenance & Presentation
• Maintain the boat ramp, staging area, dock, and surrounding grounds in a clean, clear, and hazard-free condition throughout every shift
• Remove litter, debris, weeds, and any obstructions from the ramp surface, dock, and approach areas on a continuous basis
• Ensure all signage, safety notices, fee schedules, and directional information at the launch facility are visible, legible, and in good condition
• Monitor the condition of the ramp surface, dock infrastructure, lighting, and surrounding fixtures — reporting any damage or maintenance needs to the Operations team promptly
• Assist with seasonal opening and closing of the boat launch facility, including setup, signage installation, and winterization tasks as directed
Guest Relations & Marina Communication
• Serve as a knowledgeable and welcoming representative of Grand Harbour Marina for every boater, angler, and family using the launch facility
• Provide helpful information about marina services, amenities, fuel dock, Harbour Shop, and the broader Lagoon City community to launch users
• Communicate proactively with the Harbour Shop Host, Dockside Host, and Harbour Master to coordinate guest needs and flag any operational concerns
• Maintain an accurate daily launch log recording vessel counts, fee collections, pass validations, incidents, and any notable observations for management review
• Represent the Grand Harbour Marina brand in appearance, conduct, and attitude in every interaction — on-site and in the parking and staging areas
